As long as I can remember, I have loved horses, and rode at any opportunity. But it wasn’t until middle-age that I got my first horse and I have been riding for 25
years.
I started out foxhunting (my favorite) and tried a little eventing, but my path eventually led to endurance, and I love it! In the last two years I have ridden a mul-
titude of different horses (~18) while conditioning horses, catch riding endurance races, leading foxhunting trips in Mongolia, and competing in the Gaucho Derby.
Plus, miles and miles of mountainous and rocky Arizona trails.
I’ve been able to create a good partnership with each one, which has led to find-
ing ways to connect with all these very different horses. This has all contributed to expanding my horsemanship skills.
What excites me about the style of adventure riding required for Pass of Tears,
is that much of my life has been spent working professionally as a mountaineering guide, whitewater guide, and ski patroller. I have a lot of experience with multi-
day (1–3 week) outdoor adventures in a leadership position — on snow, water, in wilderness settings, at elevation, and on several continents. Adding horses to such
travel/adventure experiences now is the ultimate enjoyment for me!
